Today I finished just a little 2×2″ piece for a frame I received on my birthday. I want to paint the frame still so below is just a picture of the art. I had the idea sketched out before so I just made the skull proportions moreĀ realistic and painted it with watercolor.

With all the inking and ink washes that were planned finished, I have one big decision: do I put washes on his shirt and jeans?
I don’t want him blending into the background at all. I have a color that will be washed over his hands. I think I should go dark with the shirt (darker than the building but don’t want the bag to compete. This is the tough part for me.
I will go back in and re-ink the kid to strengthen the color and contrast.

Here is the illustration before I go and lay some washes done on it. I hope to have this done by Wednesday. It won’t be shown publicly until BOLD HYPE’s Surrounded II show in November.
Price wise, I don’t think I’ll only be charging $200 this time!

Today I finished the architectural inks. Next step is the organic stuff and then washes and spot colors.
I’ve included the original sketch to show how the idea started.

It’s been a while, I know. I have something new to show you though. Between working full time, 2 to 3 Japanese meetups a week, some video game-like distractions and whatever comes up I have been working on new art.
My newest piece is called “The long walk home”. I had finished the boy in the foreground a couple of weeks ago but wasn’t satisfied with any backgrounds I came up with. That’s what I get for completing parts of an illustration without thinking ahead.
Anyway, I finished the pencils on the background tonight and wanted to share. There will be lots…LOTS of black in the background and washes too. The hands and some areas in the background will have another color washed over when I’m done.
My goal was to come up with a piece that creates it’s own story while you look at. Where is coming from? What has he done? Who has he done it to?
